1000 years of religious fervour

The Priory was founded in 1080, and very soon its community of canons became well known, with numerous relics enhancing the reputation of the place. From the 12th century, Cassan became the dynastic necropolis of the Trencavels (viscounts of Béziers, Carcassonne, Albi and Razès) and many prelates and lay dignitaries were buried there.
